Built in 1885 for global cargo passages under sail, WAVERTREE is the largest full-rigged sailing ship built of wrought iron still afloat. After sailing for a quarter century, she limped into the Falkland Islands in December 1910, demasted rounding Cape Horn. Rather than being re-rigged she was sold as a floating warehouse, until going to New York in 1968. WAVERTREE is now being restored for public access by the South Street Seaport Museum.Friday, May 30, 2008
